A week full of news, I should say. But yea, it's that time once again, where we explain what happened this week with the game and such. And this week, well, we're testing if you would like us to talk about the new cards too, so let us know. So, let's get started!
First of all, we have a bunch of new cards made for the game. Let us know if you like to see all cards made that week in the weekly article, we'll adjust our articles based on your feedback. Posting your feedback on the official Monster Orb Discord (A link to it is at the bottom of the website) guaranties us to see your comment.
The first card made this week is called "Prism Valley", a blue field card (Yes, it's blue, but it has nothing to do with Water monsters) which has the following effect: "Power Up: +200 Life and Attack to all Prism monsters. Once per turn, Altar Search a Prism or Max Prism monster or a monster that includes (Prism) in it's effect." This card is useful in Prism focused altars, for example: Madelyn's Altar, by powering up their monster's stats and letting people search their prism monster or support monsters. And with the most recent rule changes regarding Prism monsters, this card is absolutely good for the Eli-Catuwu combo. This card will be one of the 4 Booster Box promo for Set 1: Elemental Enrichment too!
Zero Point Fragment is our next card. It's an item card with the following effect: "Choose a monster. Copycat: "Zero Point" monster. Catacomb Summon 1 "Ignitar" or "Zero Point" monster. Remove this card from play once play." This card looks like a great recovery card, it lets you recover your monsters, which the Ignitars ABSOLUTELY needs in the deck.
When Dominick and OmegaDot played a game using the 2 altars at the start of the season for the motion comic, Dominick found out that the deck (altar) was lacking defenses and he had not much recovery cards, so hopefully this promo card helps the deck a lot.
In the first set, water monsters doesn't have really much support, so one of the booster box promo was made to be a boss monster following "Fragonium" (more on that later) and "Gemigon". Scellor of the Depths is a monster with 2000 Life and 2400 Attack with the effect:
"Block: Discard 2 water monsters.
Once per turn, you can banish 1 water monster; Destroy 1 monster.
For every water monsters in your catacomb, Power Up: +50 Life and Attack."
For a boss monster, it looks great, but we'll have to see.
Gatekeeper is a monster that was in the previous version of the game which changed a lot in terms of stats and effects. In the forth version of the game, Gatekeeper has 100 Life and 1400 Defence and with the following brand new effect:
"Battlecry: Choose a monster, it's attack are redirected to this card.
Counter: Each time a monster would attack this card, add a counter. At 5 counters, Altar Search a card."
A good looking tank, but also a search card. If it ever gets used, it would be a good tank.
Fragonium, Johnny's old card in the original Monster Orb story, has now become an altar monster! Fragonium got nerfed by loosing 1000 of his stats, and now has the following effect:
"Block: Discard 2 fire monsters.
Battlecry: Altar Search 1 monster and 1 attachment. Summon that monster and Attach the attachment."
In Hellgate Mountain, a mad scientist asked Eli, The Sorceress to be a test subject for an experiment he was doing. But, when using fire monsters, Eli started to lose her power and melted in a dark flame... Gwendolyn, The Phoenix Angel is a generic absorption monster needing either 2 fire monsters or 1 fire monster and "Eli, The Sorceress Prism" to be summoned. She has 530 life and 480 attack, but no effect.
Weird mucky water, weird eye in the tree, Parasisland has been made! This field card (Created by DeadlessDoggy, creator of the Parasiders) has:
"Once per turn, Altar Search a "Parasider" card or a card with "Parasider" in it's effect. Power Up: +150 Life and Attack to each "Parasider" monsters, +300 Life and Attack to each "Parasider Trinity" monsters, +500 Life and Attack to each "Parasider Deity" monsters."
Being the homeland of the Parasiders, this looks like a good search card for the parasiders, while powering up the stats of your monsters.
A powerful and luminous stellar explosion is the definition of this card. Super Effect - Supernova has been created on June 19th, 2020. Being a super effect regarding Celesial monster, it's effect is:
"If your master is celestial, discard any number of celestial monsters from your field (up to 4 monsters), destroy that amount of your opponent's monsters."
Being the first Celestial Super Effect, it's a good disrupt card, which is kinda the goal for the super effects.
The first Grass Super Effect has been made! Earthquake is a Super Effect for grass monsters which says: "If your master is Grass, choose 3 of your monsters with the most Life or Defence and 3 of your opponent's monsters with the most Life or Defence, Destroy them.
In altars like Paradox's altar and such, it can really destroy, heh, the strategy of their altar.
Now, for card changes: - When making other "Present" cards, the creator found out that the watermark he put in the effect box was not "Free to Use", it was "Free for Personal Use", so Dominick changed these "Present" cards so they have no watermarks... *sad face*
- "Ignitar - Zoroc" now has the following effect added: "Summon: Discard this card, Summon a Tier 5 monster.". You can now summon a Tier 5 monster, for example "Ignitar - Ultimus Dragonus", using a Tier 4 monster without discarding 2 Tier 3 monsters. - The Super Effect called "Super Effect - Hurricane" had it's element changed! For unknown reasons, the Super Effect went from being a grass super effect to a no element super effect.
- When playing the monster orb battle with Madelyn's altar and Paradox's, "Madelyn" (OmegaDot) kept adding Life and Attack because of "Field"'s effect, so the creator said that he'll change the effect of "Field" to say "attack" and not "defence", and the "Anytime a card is added to your hand, Draw a card." effect is now removed due to people not using it.
- Apparently, "Ice Peak - Town" will have its template changed. Instead of a lighter blue Field template, it will have the same template as "Ocean", so a more deep blue.
- "Juice Station" will receive the Continuous Item indicator. This is something the creator forgot to add.
On June 18th, when talking about cards, emojis and such, the creator revealed that he's planning 2 mechanics. The first mechanic, which is a new one, will come in the previously revealed Light and Dark set, or the second main set of the game, while the other mechanic will come when the first season of the motion comic will end... Maybe in a future set? That mechanic will apparently be "a copy of a previous mechanic in the game". We'll just have to see what the creator has in stock for both mechanics.
4 videos are already planned for release in the coming weeks! The Q&A video is planned to release this Sunday at 1PM EST, so the same time this article is released. In it, the creator revealed that he used 2 songs: "Beginners Village" and "Anticipation". Both songs will come on the Monster Orb channel these coming weeks.
When uploading the song "Beginners Village" on YouTube, Dominick received a copyright claim. Apparently, it was a German audio book that copyrighted the song. We asked JustLetterH, the creator of the song, about the subject and he said: "At first, I was shocked to know one of my songs were similar to a song and I was a bit afraid that I'd probably have to remove it. That's where I saw Dominick's next message where he sent the link to the video that copyrighted it. I was getting ready to prepare for the worst and see how the music would sound like, expecting it would sound better than mine... After clicking the link, that's where it all escalated quickly into a funny skit moment. At first, I was hearing some random German narrator talking and I was like: "Wait, where is the music?" The moment the ''music'' part came in, I couldn't control my laughter in real life and all my worries were gone! Apparently, the company claimed a 5-7 second violin sample which I used in my song that I created (bear in mind my song had extra stuff/materials added that I did myself while at the same time using the 5-7 sample violin part for some sections in my song). Now the funny part is the loop sample was copyright claimed by the company, but here's why it's funny. The loop itself was made by Apple loops for the DAW logic pro, and I am legally allowed to use it since it's royalty free. So that's what I basically told Diameny and suggested him to contest the copyright claim and I was 90% almost confident he would win it. And alas, he did win the contest against the copyright and why you are now seeing this article! (I was also kinda feeling a bruh moment when I realized my music got copyright claimed... BY AN AUDIO BOOK THAT USED A 7 SEC SPED UP VERSION OF THE LOOP VIOLIN SAMPLE!!!)" Here's what Dominick though about the situation: "At first, I was stunned, since yes, I got a copyright claim before for the Monster Orb song, but it was easy to fix: Remove the end and replace it with the start of the song. But for "Beginners Village", I couldn't just cut that part: The copyright said in the middle of the song... And the loop is used through out the song. So yea, I contacted JustLetterH, found tons of info regarding the loop and such, disputed the claim and we won!" At the end, with some clever research, license agreement from Dominick and JustLetterH and such, the claim was gone in a matter of 5 hours. Yay for original song! Diameny also said that he's doing a battle video and a Lyric Video for the first original Monster Orb song, "Monster Orb, The Game We Play", so that's interesting. When we said "we hope next week, we have more news like this week." last week, we weren't expecting stuff like a whole copyright claim getting resolved in a matter of hours, we were expecting stuff like more updates on the Light and Dark set, like a set name reveal or something, but no, nothing regarding these sets. I guess we're in a cliffhanger now, eh?
